All Hallows'

All Hallows’. It’s said that the veil between the living and the dead is thin at Halloween. Tell a story that revolves around the thin veil. Try to make it descriptive and suspenseful, ghostly but not gory.
I want to tell you about the creepiest event of my life and I’m not leaving out anything. You need to know what happened to me on October 31st at 11:59 p.m.

   11:30 pm

I was dressed in my zombie costume with a wooden flute in my hand. As I left my house, I heard some rustling in the bushes next to the door. There was one reason that I had left this late--to get the most candy that I could. The idea was that I would leave super late and hopefully people had already brought the candy in. So then when they came to the door, they would simply be too tired to give me just two or three pieces of candy and they’d give me the whole bin. None of my friends wanted to come out this late, which was fine by me; I mean, more candy! Anyway, as I was walking up to my next-door neighbor’s house, a cat sprang by me. I couldn’t tell what color it was, but I could’ve sworn it was black. I shrugged and trudged up the long, snaking pathway up to my neighbor’s door. Once I got there, I knocked on the door. After about a minute of waiting, I started to turn around and walk away, but the door opened.

“Hey, how ya’ doing?” I asked while staring at my groggy neighbor. “No treats?”

“Here you go, son.” He dumped his whole bin of 3 Musketeers into my bag.

Now, I’m not going to complain, but I don’t like the candy. Still, I’ll take it. I walked down the path once more and then moved to the sidewalk and to this old lady’s house. I assumed she’d have the best candy.

11:45 pm

Once I was at her door, I excitedly rang the doorbell. In the past, she gave me my favorite candy every year--black licorice. I heard light footsteps and the door opened to reveal no one there. I looked down and saw the words: If you want the candy go upstairs. Well, that was odd. I stepped into the house and immediately smelled sugar, that’s a good sign. I climbed the stairs and once I got to the landing I saw another sign: Down the hallway is where the treats will be. This is getting a little weird, but the thing was the smell of sugar was becoming stronger. I crept down the “hallway,” if you could call it that. It had tons of animal heads lining the walls and black and white picture frames with a young version of the lady in it. I stopped to stare at one of the pictures when the lights flickered then dimmed and I could barely see in front of me. I took another step and the floor creaked and an owl hooted. I continued down the hallway, but I suddenly felt very cold. I noticed that the windows were open, and I saw that fog was coming into the room.

11:59 pm

I continued down the hall and heard quiet footsteps behind me, I whipped around and saw a very mystical figure. It was a little bit smaller than I was but its blank, white eyes seemed very fierce. “What are you looking for?” the figure asked with a raspy voice as it revealed a hidden bucket of candy. It started taking soft steps towards me and I bolted down the stairs and out the door, down the pathway, and away from that house. I could hear the person screeching from inside its house. I’ve still never been back there since, and now, I always stay with my friends on Halloween.
