Changes

Changes

When I was around eight years old, I moved from London, England to a small town called Thetford, in rural Vermont. This was a big change for me, moving from a large city in Europe to a small town in America. Everything was different from life in London. For example my commute to school was different. In London, it was an eight minute walk to school, dashing through busy streets, tall buildings looming over every corner, and the smells from bakeries and cafes. But then I moved to Thetford, where I have a 40 minute bus ride to school driving past frosted pines, gentle sweeping pastures, and quiet creeks.

Even the sounds are different changing from the cacophony of London, where I woke up to the sounds of cars rumbling, sirens wailing, and the buzzing of the electric trains in the railyard. Compared to the sound in Vermont of the crickets chirping in the heat of summer, the soft whisper of the leaves in fall, the padding thud of footsteps in freshly fallen snow.

Moving to Vermont has allowed me to experience a different way of  everyday living and I am grateful for the change.
