death bed

You push me out to sea

With every toll life takes.

My wood is deteriorating

With thousands of years.

I've held village girls

And I've held mothers.

I've journeyed with the greats

And I've journeyed with kings.

Will I see the day

When you sail out to sea?

Your body on fire

Lying within me.

Or are you an immortal being?

Do you have no end?

Is that why you keep coming back,

Burying every other soul.

But life has taken its toll

On me.

I'm now withered and old,

But I'll still be here to serve and to hold.

I wake up under covers or chains,

Alone in a bed I didn't sleep in,

Clothes like a straight-jacket around my limbs,

My thoughts locked in the prison of my brain.

    Or rather, a looking glass.

But when you look a little closer,

Dip your toes beneath the surface,
