Do-Over

If you could have one do over on any part of your life, what would it be? You could do anything over. It could be first grade, rewriting a paper, or even just one thing you said or did.

If I could do one thing over in my life I would redo one baseball game. Baseball is one of my favorite sports and if I could redo a baseball game, I would in no time.

It was the finals of our district tournament. My team was undefeated, so the opposing team had to beat us twice to advance. During our first game of the finals, our pitcher was struggling and had let up three runs, We put in another pitcher and he also struggled. Not only was our pitching not too good, the other team's pitcher was unstoppable. He had only let one person on base the whole game. We ended up losing the game 10-2. Since that was our first loss of the tournament, we got to play against the same team again. But this time, whoever lost was eliminated, and the winning team got to move on to the state tournament.

My team was Central Vermont, and we were the defending state champs. The other team was Manchester. In our league there is a rule that you can only pitch a certain amount of pitches each day, and if you go beyond that amount, you can’t pitch the next day.

It was a nice day for baseball. The game got off to a fast start. We were pitching one of our better pitchers and so were they. It was 0-0 throughout five innings. The last inning was where the action happened.

We were the away team so we were batting first. Our first batter struck out, after fouling some off. Our second batter hit the ball and got to first Our third hitter of the inning, which was me, also got a hit. We had runners on first and third with one out. Our next two hitters tragically got out, and we still had zero runs.

Now it was their turn to bat. Their first batter hit a hard hit that our first basemen might have been able to field, but it would have been a hard play, then the ball went to our right fielder and we fumbled it around before he got control and could throw the ball in. The runner got to third base. The next batter hid a very nice hit right over the pitchers head, it landed in the outfield grass way in front of the center fielder. The second the ball hit the ground my heart sank, I knew that the runner on third was going to get home, there was nothing I could do about It, I knew he was going to get home, I had that helpless feeling in my gut, and there was nothing I could do about it, I knew he was going to get home. In baseball if you are the last team to bat and, if you get more runs than the other team, you win. And that is what happened to the other team. I didn’t think it was unfair. I didn’t think it was cheap. I knew they had won, fair and square. I just don’t like to lose.

Manchester also won states and made it to regionals, which we had made it to the year before. If I had one do over in my life so far that is what it would be. It would be that because baseball is one of my favorite sports.

If you could do one thing over in your life what would it be?
