Do-Over

One thing that I wish I could do over is a time last year when I overreacted about a situation with my teacher. Last year, my entire class was told that every number that we wrote in math had to be inside of these little graph paper boxes. I thought that this was unreasonable because it took twice as long to do our work and it was difficult to write the numbers in the small boxes. Therefore I thought we should not have to abide by this rule. The next day, when my teacher looked over my work and saw that my numbers were not in the boxes she asked if we could talk in the hall. While we were talking, I felt that she was not listening so I felt frustrated. As a result, I said some pretty rude things that I should not have said. I also got really frustrated when I explained why I thought we should not have to listen to this rule and when I finished explaining that my teacher just said “can you explain that again”.

After the incident, I felt really bad for the teacher and we came up with a solution to the problem. In hindsight, I wish that in the beginning I just had approached the teacher and asked if we could do something about the problem-instead of getting angry and saying unkind things to her. If I could replay this moment, I would think about what I was going to say before I said it, and not get as frustrated.
