Low Battery

This morning I woke up

to find my phone hadn't charged last night,

so I plugged it in while I stumbled through my morning routine

and picked it up right before I hurriedly left the scene.

This time when I sat down

to prepare for my classes last-minute,

I opened my Chromebook to power saving mode

because apparently it too was running low.

This noon during class,

my watched vibrated for my attention

asking me to plug it in soon,

But even on 15%, I knew it could still last a day or two.

As one by one the charges became vexed,

I found this coincidence quite perplexed

and I wondered what was next.

And as I feared

next in line was me

and not only...

Someone bled

from everything that had compound,

and I drowned

in everything that had been said.

Though electricity can be rewound,

what do we do when we're close to dead

besides wishing we were back in bed?

    Come on,

    just another step.

    Come on,

    just another breath.

    Come on,

    just another swallow

of the pain that makes you hollow.

    Just one more sweet smile

  • Why I write

    I write to relate,

    and to speak my truth.

I write to prove I know pain,

and to see that others do too.

    I write to be heard.

They're always there when I need them,

    they never run away.

They're always here when troubles stem

to hear what I have to say.

    They don't judge

    or hold a grudge.
