Memories

Your footsteps follow you as you trudge through a forsaken labyrinth of memories. You feel a presence following you every inch of the way, yet at the same time, this is the loneliest you've ever felt. The cold, claustrophobic walls follow you no matter which way you go. Every crack, every bit of dust on the walls tells a story–– ones no one would want to hear. Your flickering torchlight slowly succumbs to unyielding darkness. When you strain your ears, you can almost hear people laughing, screaming, crying, doing anything but being silent. But alas, you’re hopelessly alone. You walk down every corridor and reach into every box and all you find is memories, keepsakes, trinkets, overturned tables, defaced paintings. It’s as if you’re in a demented time capsule. Time stopped here, and for a moment, your time stops as well. The walls seem to compact as the darkness approaches. You walk down the last of the winding tunnels and see the end of the tunnel, light blasting into your eyes. The time capsule still sits in its tomb, and you return to your normal life. But the walls, the darkness, the memories….no matter how much you might want to, you’ll never escape.
