opening night thoughts

We both have short hair,

We could probably measure the inches,

Down to the centimeters, and the millimeters,

And it'd be the same length.

We are both introverts,

But I don't know to what extent.

I wish I could learn how social you are,

And all the events that make your legs shake.

We both are theatre kids,

Though that's not surprising.

And somehow we are both techies

Fighting for our lives among the actors.

Someone told me that you hate me.

I was getting my hopes up,

But I know these things never end well.

I thought that you were the one.

Sometimes you can be annoying,

But I know it's nothing compared to me.

Being backstage together won't change a thing,

It won't change the way you see me.

In all my dreams, I get you flowers,

I'm going out of my way to get them

In your favorite color,

Because of course they need to be perfect.

I caught you crying—

No one's ever seen you like that before.

I asked, "Are you okay?"

I was the first one to be there for you.

And I was the first one to congratulate you

On opening night.

And I was the first to learn how you don't like

Anyone or anything at all.

There goes my plan.
