It's December already
I've been alive for over thirteen years
over thirteen years of learning and growing
making mistakes and accomplishing feats
of finding myself and uncovering layers in not only myself
but other people I know.
2025 is the year of the snake
2026 is the year of the horse
we shed off the values that we don't want to come with us into the future
and run freely into the new year
shedding our snakeskins and galloping away
it's an interesting way to think about it.
We have to keep moving forward
because time doesn't wait
it goes and never stops
it drags you in its path
but maybe it doesn't have to drag us
maybe we can walk alongside it
hand in hand
each step in sync
shedding the past
embracing the future.

I love that you used the reference to the year of the snake and the horse. It was not only really fitting, it strengthened your entire poem overall, very nice!
