Victorious

People ask me,

Why do you love music so much?

Making music

Playing music

Listening to music.

I thought about it, and

I really love how it connects people.

People who are so different

But have music in common.

All different backgrounds

Personalities

Families

To create one big community.

I love how it unites people

And how fun it is

How freeing

When I bring my instrument to my lips

And how I look forward to playing with my friends

Who push me

Who teach me

Who I learn and grow from.

I feel

Victorious

When I've sight-read something

(and not died from it).

I feel

Victorious

When I learn something new

Have that "aha"where it makes sense.

I feel

Victorious

When I play

When I listen

When I'm with my people.

Playing music is a victory for me

Because it creates me

Binds me

Holds me.

It's there for me.

To me music is like

Writing a story;

Phrasing

Expression

Making it my own.

Playing someone else's piece

Listening to someone else's piece

And yet somehow it almost becomes

Mine.

I assign meaning to the lyrics

Shape them to fit my life

Make them matter.

I play Beethoven and JaRod Hall and others

But I add dynamics

Articulation

To make it

Sort of

Mine.

In a way.

Victorious is the feeling

Music gives me;

Adrenaline

Excitement

Anticipation

Familiarity.

Victorious is who I am when I play.
