They fought for us

Wrote the Declaration of Independence

With James Madison

John Adams

The second president

They built our country

They painted every stroke

Hoping one day

We would finish

Their painting

And make it a masterpiece

They had dreams

They had ideas

They started America

All we had to do was make it better

Did we?

Did we add the details

To the great unfinished painting

Or did we scribble over

Their hard work

Everyones hard work

How would they look at us

We made progress

There are no slaves

Women can vote

It is better

But is it enough?

There is still

Racism

And sexism

These things were here

Years ago

Right alongside the founding fathers
