Hide and Seek

A long, blond-haired, middle-aged woman leaves her house, but before she leaves she goes up to her tea cup set and kisses each perfectly made cup and plate. She opens the door and locks the door behind her, no doubt not wanting her precious tea set to be stolen.  She has left a toddler in the care of an older sister.

The tea cup, kettle, and plate start to shake, and the painted markings and flowers on the cups start forming into unique looking faces. The kettle shakes herself and smiles, the tea cups gather around her.

“ Is everyone ready for hide n seek? Chip, stop obsessing over your handle.” The kettle scolds the smallest teacup after catching him wiping his handle vigorously.

“ Sorry momma, but she planted a really wet, slobbery kiss this time” he pouted. He then joins the huddle of small tea cups and settled down for the story. A young blond child walk’s up an smiles.

“ Chip, momma’s not that bad. Mrs. Pots, who is going to count this time?”  answers the young girl.

“Well Esme, I was going to have Chip count since he hasn't in a while.” asks Mrs. Pots. Everyone nods and the youngest tea cup starts to count.

Esme quickly runs and hides near the pantry. She opens the door and the smell of herbs and cereal wafts out, and she quickly scurries in. She wedges herself into a nook in the wall. Esme hears a little clinking as chip finishes counting and starts to search. Soon after she hears moans and squeals of disappointment, most likely from the other young tea cups.

“ Esme! Your the last one, and your mothers home! Come out.” Yells Mrs. Pots soft voice. Esme giggles and returns to the others. She gently places each tea cup and kettle back on the shelf. Her mother opens the door and the little girl looks away, when she looks back there are no faces, or defining features on the tea set. She giggles and blows them all a kiss, and the youngest tea cup sends her a wink. She laughs and runs to her mother.
