Frame of Mind

a/n: this song is really sad, at least to me. this is based on entirely my own thoughts of the piece.

For now, you can stay
Right here, we will play
Until somehow you can find
A slightly different frame of mind

"Anna! Do you wanna play again?" I asked her. The girl was sitting on my floor, like always. She looked up, a sad smile on her face.

"Charles, you know I can't anymore," she replied, standing. Her pigtails were more disheveled than usual, hanging off the sides of her head loosely. "You need to let me go."

"No! I don't want to! I want to play with you!" I picked up a doll, walking over to her. I held it out. "Please?"

She sighed, then reached out for the doll. "Okay. But not for long, though."

I smiled.

We played.
Right here in my arms
Away from all harm
You'll be safe from all the flares
Although I know you don't care

Everytime I tried to hug Anna, my arms went right through her. She always tried to hug me back anyway.

"Charles."

Anna's voice was quiet. As we ran outside, she'd started to slow down. I couldn't even run through her. I stopped as she did, my kite falling to the ground.

"I can't be with you anymore. I'm sorry."

Spectral tears dripped down to the ground as she began to shake. I reached out towards her, but as always, nothing happened.

"Anna?! Please don't leave me! Not again!"

My panicked voice scared the crows off the trees. Anna'd started to fade away.

You can lift your head up to the sky
Take a deeper breath and give it time
You can walk a path among the lines
With your shattered frame of mind

"Anna!"
I wish that you could always stay
We can wait right here and play
Until somehow you can find
A slightly better frame of mind

"Anna..please come back.."
When they say you will fall,
You can reach nothing at all
Hide your tracks beneath the rind
Of a different frame of mind

"Anna..."

song is by tristam & braken.
