When I was small,
the sky was a storybook—
every page dotted with stars
too many to count,
each one whispering my name.
But now the nights glow
with lights that never sleep.

The stars are reflected in the glimmer of the headlamp's light on the snow
And the air is frozen-- it feels like the sensation of holding your hand under water so burning hot that
it begins to feel cold
somehow.

Sometimes I wonder

That night?
It was dark and light all at onceFire lit
A volleyball we couldn’t see
A game we couldn’t play
People I didn’t know
I could be with
