Vulnerable
At school
we're doing a poetry unit.
"Oh cool, we write poetry all the time!"
My friend says.
What we didn't realize, though,
was that the teacher turned on the tap
to our inner selves

The Bird
I am the bird that everyone knows.
Never sees, only feels my presence.
Visible in your mind, noticeable in your heart.
My wingtips are dashed with anxiety,
my tail feathers streaked with frustration and loss.

Renewing
Discomfort
settles
inside you
hardens
into something to avoid
churning your stomach
restraining you from finding peace.
Emotional
yet physical
tormenting you
pestering you
-
An Idea
It is started by a piece of paper
written in blue pen ink
smeared as it is folded twice
passed to a friend.
Purple marker replies to blue pen
folded up the same way as before;

Carry On
My other half
my neighbor
my friend.
You will die in my
lifetime
and I will be left without you.
How does life go on
without you as a
constant companion
to support me?

Bonds
Two creatures
inseparable
a bond stronger than that of two people;
returning to the comfort of the other
even after time has passed.
There for the other
stronger together
weakened alone

I unfolded the fragile page, Kael leaning close as the lantern light caught the writing. My mother’s hand—sharp, deliberate strokes—spread across the paper. I swallowed hard and began to read aloud:

Kael paced the length of the dorm, muttering to himself. “No, no, no, this is bad—this is worse than bad. Purple blood? Orange Luminor? This isn’t random, Ryder. This is connected.”

Supercilious
Pulchritudinous
Cassock

Diffident
Omnipotent
Ebullient
Jaunty
