Long ago,
there was only the Sea,
and her daughters,
and the sky above.
Before the Sea had a shore.
Before the land met the sun.
Before Her language was sought, -

parks and parking lots
swings and little tots
schools and grocery shops
libraries and flu shots
laughter and falling tears
musicals and forgotten fears
birthdays and passing years -
Assumptions
"She's so polite"
"Very studious."
"Doesn't get into trouble."
"Kinda boring."
"She will tell us anything."
"She won't change a thing."

Fragments of Heartbreak in Paris
This morning I watched
as someone I love broke their heart.
Over and over,
I watched them wander through the secret streets of Paris,
clumsily holding their heart in their hands. -
Sweater of Me
Songs
of my father’s
belly laughter
flow through the eye
of the needle
and around the loom
with each abdominal contraction.
It reminds me of
home. -
