Daedalus
I hate that
Icarus gets all the ink.
His hubris penned down for eternity while
His scorched flesh watched on.But never is it Daedalus.
Daedalus, who waits.
The waiting Daedalus. -

Those White High Tops Whose Laces I Never Tie

Also happened to be my only pair of shoes. -
Overthinking At 10:01 PM
Did you know that
A mayfly lives for less than a day?Maybe this is selfish of me.
It probably is.But I'm weak.
I can't handle death. Not that I'm not thankful for being here
But I'm weak. -

Or enjoying their presence.
I'm talking love love. -

I was supposed to be named Amina
After my grandmother, who I only knew
Shortly in the beginning of my life.
I think about this often.
Amina feels almost foreign on my tongue--
Ahh-minn-uhh.
Amina is loud.

Longhand
I write longhand.
Journal, pencil, print.
Letters melding together in a harmony on the page.
Graphite scratching the paper, pencil sharpening every 5 minutes.
Lined paper, perfect for doodles and random thoughts.

i write poetry on lined paper
in class & only half pay attention, rounded letters
barely containing all i want to say. i use green marker
& stare dreamily into the yellowed margins,

In English We Read Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes
We read poems on printed white sheets in english class
Color them with highlights
And words like freedom
Are covered in pink.
