We would have so much to learn from ourselves, if only we had a glimpse into the future! But all we can do is soothe our inner child, give them the reassurance they still need to hear. I think writing these kinds of letters is such an important healing exercise for us all, no matter how grown we are. It'd be worth repeating in five years time again -- and no doubt, your 18-year-old self, just about to graduate, will be calling out 13-year-old you for her currently undetectable naivete, too!

Oh-o, is this truly the end of this story, meant to be left as a brief flash fiction? I think his friends and classmates are being too harsh on his -- we all quite naturally change our attitude and quirks and personality to some degree in each new setting, depending on the emotions and character of our peers -- so I was skeptical of any "fakeness" he was being accused of and rooting for him instead!

Yes, Puerto Rico is very beautiful. My godmother lives in San Juan so I will hopefully go back as well!
