I would recommend Tamora Pierce. She writes historical fiction/fantasy, and her books are amazing!

If you like queer books, and don’t mind some really heavy topics and horror, then I would recommend Andrew Joseph White. He writes books about trans boys who get turned into monsters/have to fight to exist, and along the way, they find love. Honestly, he’s my favorite author right now, but his books are REALLY emotionally intense, so be careful.

There’s also this collection of poetry written by teens called Leave This Song Behind which is pretty good!

Okay for YA fantasy I have:

  • The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (series) is a little hard to get into, but after a while the plot gets good
  • The Young Elites by Marie Lu (trilogy) is basically a villain origin story and told from her perspective. The author does an amazing job at developing her characters!
  • Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (duology) has great dialogue and characters

On the more superhero side of fantasy (sci-fi?):
  • Powerless by Tera Lynn Childs (duology)
  • Renegades by Marissa Meyer (trilogy)
