Downpour
Unexpected
Dress for sun, for warmth, for joy
Suddenly
Rain, clouds, cold, hurt
Descend
Turn around and go away
-
Stuck
I know two different worlds
My little one in my little town with little problems
And the big one
With big problems
Everywhere else
When I want to join the big world
Be known there

Conscious
Middle school is a horrible place
Many watch themselves
Compare to others
Lie to fit in
No one wants to be the only oneNo one wants to stand out
No one wants to do the right thing

The holiday season
During the holidays
I find the most joy in
Baking cookies
Knowing that my family will smile when they try them
Making and buying presents
Knowing that my family will smile when they open them

After the fifth day of November
note: partially inspired by Mary Oliver's "Wild Geese"
and for my mom
i want you to sit and stare at the glistening horizon.

Forgotten
Whisked away,
In a dark unknown.
Long fingers pull us out.
Scrutinize.
We’re unlaced,
Laced again,
Step by step we thud against the ground.
White turns to gray,
Soles become worn,

The Hat
One day
I crocheted a hat
I don’t really know
Why
or
When
But the hat became
A constant companion.

The Spider in the Shower
There’s a spider in the shower,
It showed up there today,
It’s in the corner
Where wallpaper meets wallpaper meets wallpaper

After the Ballots
When the echoes of voices have softened their sound,
And the campaign signs come down from the ground,
We’re left in the quiet, in the soft light of dawn,
To mend what is fractured, to carry on.
