I wrote a poem titled 'last day of school' recently and recited it at my school graduation assembly in June. That whole poem is very vulnerable to me, especially because of the fact that I wrote it on a whim and ended up making all of my teachers cry. UGGH YES i am in the same position right now! writer's block is the worst and it gets us writers so regularly. i listen to music, comb the internet for good prompts (the results aren't great, but Reedsy has some good ones), and try to stop thinking about writing something great, instead focus on developing ideas and stories i already have. hope you get out of the block soon!!
The angle from which the picture is taken makes me feel like a little kid looking up at the swings. Your image shows how perspective can change so much depending on how the photo is taken.
I like visual writing too! Strong imagery makes the story more interesting, and at times the novel reads like poetry. I can tell that Fitzgerald was intentional with his word choice and style.
Your commentary is spot-on, and speaks so much of the times! I was out at my local fireworks display and noticed it too. I wound up taking a couple pictures myself, put down my phone with intention, then almost picked it up half a dozen times again to snap more pics... but I didn't. I always try to ask myself in these situations (concerts are another example), Why do I want to remember this moment, exactly? Because this moment is worth experiencing. Seeing work like this is another great reminder, and I can really appreciate the message you're communicating. Sometimes we just have to LIVE as if there were never an option to RElive the moment!
Ha! I almost wish this were a short story, not just a poem -- I want more! This has great potential to be taken further in both creepy and hilarious directions. My cat has a penchant for staring at me through the crack in my doorway at night, too, sometimes for a whole hour or two... I often wonder what the heck is going on her little brain.
yeah I think because your characters seem hurried and scared they wouldn't worry about spelling but you do what you think
