Ahh! I love poetry about such small, pure moments, taken and studied and squeezed for all their color and joy. You got every drop out of this memory that you could, every detail, and it couldn't sum up summer any better!

I love the metaphor.

It's less often I see love songs/poetry written from this angle... not about heartbreak, but impending heartbreak, which brings with it its own subtle and monumental sadnesses alike. Your repetition, and the examples you use, of what's sure to come, are all so strong and visceral -- especially the ones relating to the weather! I love that you've sort of played around with the idea of "the calm before the storm." I was happy to see this piece end with a glimmer of hope and resilience.

GOOSEBUMPS. FREAKING GOOSEBUMPS. Amazing work. The last paragraph...the mark of an excellent dark-fiction writer is a terrifyingly great last sentence/paragraph.

This is so, so, so good. It makes me want to cry, it’s so touching. I just graduated from 8th grade and am having a similar situation, of nostalgia and sadness yet excitement at what’s to come. Thank you for writing this.
