When I was little

My favorite color

Was pink

I wore dresses

To school

With matching

Floral headbands

Then I turned ten

A monkey resting

leaves to filter, clouds above

and lies out of reach?

The air was thick with heat and sunscreen. Our cleats kicked up dust as we ran onto the field already tired from two earlier games.  Summer felt like nonstop softball tournaments weekend after weekend.

They say I'm too young to know what love is,

Too quick to believe in forever and kisses. 

They roll their eyes when I speak from my chest, 

As if my heart's too small to feel this mess.

With beach grass blowing

Around my face and

The smell of the sea tickling

My nose, watching
