Good Morning

Good morning, sunlight like syrup

Touching every dew-streaked blade

Of grass and puddle of drying mud.

Good morning, air that smells of spring,

Air that sounds

Like a melody whose words I keep forgetting.

Good morning, laughter

Spilling out of my mouth on long afternoons

Made of flower crowns and daisy chains

And hands caressing the rich, wet earth.

Good morning, summer clothes

Now is the season for knees and shoulders,

For sunburnt skin that becomes a part of me

And lingers so long I forget why I ever cared.

Good morning, watermelon juice

Running down my chin because now is the time

To sink my teeth into something new yet known,

Like a moment from a past life.

Good morning to bottomless blue

To blossoms and rolling hills, to trying

To forget that there will ever be times

Different from these.

Good morning, May.

I wish that you'd come stay the night.
