I carry sticky notes with me at all times... I'm also pretty good at leaving mental notes for myself and remembering them later. Another trick I have for when you have an idea in the middle of the night but don't want to get up is throwing a pillow across the room at your door, or turning something around. When you wake up you'll notice the misplaced object and remember the idea you had. Sounds kind of silly I know but it works for me! :)
