I once fell in love with a best friend too lol, and when I told her she said she loved me back. Even though that's not true anymore, I still wouldn't change all that much when we were dating. I'd say that if you're not ready, you're not ready, but if you have a chance, give yourself a chance. Though if there is a lack of trust, address that first. My parents told me nothing works without trust
