"It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all," or so they say. This piece reminded me of that: "All that you have blessed me with // The idea that I have a memory to reflect on..." Sometimes all we are left with are our memories. I'm happy for you that they still remain in sharp focus, enough to put them to paper and preserve them infinitely. Heart-catching piece.
The message behind this is such a powerful one, and I could feel your passionate conviction for it through your words! It can seem impossible to dismiss what the mirror shouts at us, but clearly, you've exposed it as a foe and a phony. I hope others get a chance to read this today and feel their perspectives on their self-worth shift, if only for a little while. We all deserve a reprieve from the mirror's harsh taunts.
This is so triumphant! That last stanza, about the need to carry on not only for yourself but for those who have fallen -- those lost but not forgotten -- expresses a real sense of compassion.
This vibrancy of color is fantastic! I love its slightly upturned mouth, as if in a half-smile, and the glimmer of white in its eye, bringing it alive.
It's interesting to think about people's varying definitions of lazy. Some might wish for a cozy day on the couch with their dog; others, like you, write about the warmth of the summer sun on your skin and connecting to nature. I would never call that laziness, I'd call it medicine for the soul! I hope someday soon you have a chance to lounge beneath a blue sky and truly forget the world, "laziness" be damned!
It's funny how certain objects hold such power over us, especially the things once owned by a loved one we've lost. They can retain an almost magical quality or enchantment, one that can conjure up memories as if they were yesterday or on the other hand, remind us of just how much time has passed and how much we have changed since we saw them last. I feel this piece explores the themes of Loss and Time in a very emotionally intelligent way and with a beautiful subtlety, too.
Hi, thanks. Today was the worst of it, and the power's been out all day. A lot of trees fell, but that's what happens when you live in The Woodlands lol. Right now my family's driving to College Station (a city nearby that has power and hotels) to stay the night. To anyone else who's been affected by the hurricane, stay safe!
