Humming to Our Hearts

Humming to Our Hearts

The piano

Twirling through the air,

The lyrics I hummed to

With my grandma, my aunt,

My mom,

The characters I can feel creeping

Out the tears in my heart;

I think they’ve been there

All my life,

Smiling as I do

At this album,

Because they’ve come to dance

Within the pages

I’m typing,

Stamping their feet

With their footprints as letters

Along with the rhythm.

I wish

I could take their hands

Along with my grandma’s, my aunt’s,

My mom’s,

In mine,

All dancing together

In the song we’ve made

Into our lives,

The song that lets us be drawn

Out of our own hearts

Just so we can hum and sing

together.
